Welcome Back!!!

It seems the summer has flown by once again.  I understand how hectic this time of the year can be so my plan for the beginning of the 2018-19 school year will be slightly different.  This welcome back edition of the update will share basic updates as you begin your school year.  Starting in September and running through August, updates will be sent every two weeks to highlight new materials and resources.  I'm here to serve you so please don't hesitate to contact me at burt.jenkins@dpi.nc.gov if I can be of assistance.

NCAAHPERD-SM 2018 Convention

November 1 - 3 2018

Winston Salem, NC

 

Participants are able to earn up to 1.6 renewal credits by attending this year’s 3-day event.

Literacy and Technology Credits are available, but they are not in addition to the total credits for the day. A half day Tech session is scheduled for Saturday November 3rd.  

 

Keynoters & Featured Presenters:

  • Jim DeLine.  A veteran physical education teacher from Austin, Texas.  For the past 20+ years, he had delighted K-12 physical education teachers with his witty and upbeat keynotes and practical physical education workshops.
  • Beth Kirkpatrick.  Beth has been wowing K-12 audiences in all 50 states and around the world! Her positive and motivational speeches are transformation, funny, and entertaining.
  • John Smith.  John has been thrilling crowds with his insightful presentations, interesting student stories, and teaching insights for many years. Attendees will be excited to note that he is both a National Physical Education TOY and National Basketball Coach of the Year as well!
  • Chip Candy.  National Middle School PE Teacher of the Year, Chip has been presenting across the United States for decades - from California to New Jersey, Florida to Maine.

North Carolina Healthy Schools will hold its yearly meeting of School Health Coordinators and Healthful Living Contact Persons to precede the state conference of NCAAHPERD-SM.

Donate Life NC

New Materials and Resources for 

9.PCH.1.2 Summarize the procedures for organ donation, local and state resources, and benefits. 

  

Great news teachers!  Donate Life NC now has new curriculum and classroom materials available for distribution. Created for high school students and young adults, these resources help students understand the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation and are appropriate for health classes and for drivers’ education classes anywhere in North Carolina.

 

The new curriculum includeds four lesson plans, a reading list and a resource guide for parents and is available for free for any teacher or drivers’ education instructor in North Carolina. These new materials can be combined with formerly available resources including handouts, posters and videos.
