A+ Schools

A+ Schools as a school reform model

A+ Schools of North Carolina is the nation’s longest-running, most successful arts-based whole school transformation model. Newly released research on A+ demonstrates impressive results in school growth, student proficiency, and narrowing the achievement gap. Additionally, A+ helps schools to build creative, engaging learning environments that allow students to master the state standards while developing their 21st century skills.

DPI has created this document as a resource for districts to learn more about A+ Schools, including Title I funding. For more information, please contact A+ Schools Program Director Michelle Burrows at 919-807-6503 or michelle.burrows@ncdcr.gov.

School counselor

School counselors and ESSA

Wondering where school counselors and other specialized instructional support personnel fit into federal program funding and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)?

DPI has prepared this document to assist districts with that identification in order to support effective use of school counselors in promoting student success.

With funding changes from ESSA, this is an optimal time to review your spending plans for federal funds to see if there are ways you can better support students with effective provision, utilization and professional development of school counselors. For more information about school counseling, contact Cynthia Floyd, DPI school counseling consultant, at Cynthia.Floyd@dpi.nc.gov or visit schoolcounseling.ncdpi.wikispaces.net

ELA SCOOP

Get the SCOOP on new ELA standards

Need to know what's happening with the deployment of the new ELA standards? There are 20 resources and over 150 lessons within the Virtual Implementation Kit (VIK).

We realize that reviewing all of these resources can be quite daunting for educators. Using a "Choose Your Own Adventure" theme, our Summer SCOOP provides optional paths educators can take to determine which VIK resources to use to begin their planning as they prepare for the 2018-2019 implementation of the new ELA SCOS.

Also included is a section on lesson makeovers. Guidance is provided to help teachers give their lessons a new look by aligning to the 2017 SCOS.
