 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Finalist Recognized
Mathematics Finalist - Christian Pennington, Wendy Bartlett, and Suzanne Gibbons
On Thursday, December 7, 2017, the North Carolina Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) were recognized by the North Carolina State Board of Education at the Education Building in Raleigh. The finalist were recognized for their outstanding commitment to mathematics and science education and for their leadership in their schools, district, and across the state. The finalist received certificates from the State Superintendent Mark Johnson and the State Board Chair William Cobey.
During the afternoon, the finalist were honored at a luncheon, hosted by the Burroughs Wellcome Center. At the luncheon, the finalist spoke passionately about their calling into the education field and the impact that they wish to have on their students, colleagues, schools and communities. At the luncheon, the finalist received special recognition from the National Science Foundation.

The search for the 2018 PAEMST Finalist is now underway!
If you know a K-6 math, science, or technology teacher who is impacting their students and school through great instructional practices and leadership, now is the time to nominate that teacher.
The Presidential Award for Excellence in
Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest honor bestowed by
the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science (including
computer science) teaching.
Anyone--principals, teachers,
parents, students, or members of the general public--may nominate exceptional
mathematics or science teachers who are currently teaching grades K–6 for the
2017-2018 award year. Teachers may also apply directly at www.paemst.org.
The Nomination Deadline is
April 1, 2018 and the Application Deadline
is May 1, 2018, for elementary school
teachers (grades K-6). Secondary school teachers (grades 7-12) will be eligible
to apply during a future cycle.
