During this week's SBE meeting, members received an update on recent happenings in the General Assembly.  SBE's Director of Legislative Affairs and Special Initiatives, Cecilia Holden, briefed the Board on legislation that passed during the August and September sessions.  While these sessions were mainly devoted to redistricting, several bills involving education were approved (as covered in previous editions of this newsletter).  Holden's presentation provided the Board with a concise review of recently-passed education legislation.  The outline of her presentation is available here.  More information on what was discussed in this month's SBE meeting, as well as in previous meetings, can be found here.

For the last several years, the issue of principal pay has become an issue of greater concern in North Carolina.  Thankfully, progress is being made in addressing this problem.  As evidenced in this article from EdNC, SBE and others are continuing to work with lawmakers to resolve any unintended consequences of the recent changes.  The article provides a good look into the issue of principal pay and how it is being addressed in our state.
