ELA Updates:
The Digital Support Writers (DSW) are
continuing to work on lessons aligned to the new standards. These lessons are not focused on a single
text. They can be used with any text
that is appropriate for the targeted skill. These lessons are a part of the Virtual Implementation Kit due to be released in January 2018. The DSW is also finalizing the glossary, which will be a part of the new
Standards document.
Now Available:
Check out the recently revised Instructional Practice Guides (IPG)! Adapted
from Student Achievement Partners’ Instructional Practice Guides, these tools
have been revised to reflect the NC Instructional Practices in the ELA
Classroom. One guide focuses on grades
K-2, while the other guide focuses on grades 3-12. The IPGs are for teachers, and those who
support teachers, to build understanding and experience with NCSCoS-aligned
instruction. These tools are not meant to be evaluative.

Coming Soon:
The ELA Section at DPI has created a
“Designing Aligned Instruction” course in Canvas. Currently, this course is being reviewed by
the DSW, as well as by outside stakeholders.
This course will include topics such as choosing standards, determining
learning objectives, choosing texts, supporting students, ensuring alignment,
etc. This course will be available to
all NC ELA educators in January 2018.
