Disaster Recovery (Hurricane Matthew Oct 2016 / Wildfires Nov 2016) Reporting - Charter Schools - Due Today Reminder


The Disaster Recovery Act of 2016 (SL 2016-124 Section 5.7) provided flexibility to charter schools affected by Hurricane Matthew or wild fires on making up instructional days in 2016-17. The Bill requires charter schools to provide information to the Department of Public Instruction on the implementation of the legislation.


The survey link is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TVBR83N and is to be completed by each charter school. Please complete and submit by February 10, 2017. If you have questions, contact Gwendolyn Tucker at gwendolyn.tucker@dpi.nc.gov.

October 2016 Leadership Institute Conference Reimbursements

 

 

The Office of Charter Schools (OCS) has formalized the process to return the October 2016 fees charter schools. If your school submitted a fee for the October Leadership Conference (which was cancelled due to weather) please submit to Ms. Mary Brown via email the following:

 

  •  W-9 form - required by NCDPI accounts payable 


A check will be sent the week the form W-9 form is received. Ms. Brown can be reached at mary.brown@dpi.nc.gov. Please contact the OCS directly with questions or concerns at 919-807-3491.

This month’s OCS Audible (webinar) will be held Tuesday, February 28 at 10:30 amRegistration details for the webinar will be provided next week. We will provide important updates and information on the NC School Jobs program.

Office of Charter Schools (OCS) Launches Training Camps for Low-Performing and Continually Low-Performing Charter Schools- Save the Date


As part of our new professional development model, OCS is launching Training Camps. The Training Camps are intended for schools categorized as low-performing or continually low-performing.

To ensure a productive training camp for attendees, we will host a pre-camp webinar Wednesday, March 8 from 9:00-10:00 am. Charter School High School (HS) Math Summit

 

We have secured a date, time and place for the Charter School HS Math Summit. It will occur during the CCSA conference Greensboro, and charters will have a separate (free) registration.

State Board of Education (SBE) Launches Revamped Online Policy Manual

 

Finding state education policy is important in your role covering public schools and public education. To help you locate state-level policies, the State Board of Education office has reformatted the online State Board of Education Policy Manual, providing users with a more easily understood coding system and a more modern user experience. The new policy manual site launched Feb. 1, and we encourage you to visit the site to see the changes firsthand.

 

Finding the Policy Manual

 

SBE Policy Manual access is through the same link on the State Board of Education website, which also can be accessed from the Department of Public Instruction’s home page (in the green banner at the top of click on State Board of Education). You will see a number of tabs, including the “Policy Manual” tab. All of the policy manual “categories/subjects” appear on the left navigation bar on the page.
