Office of Civil Rights (OCR) Coordinator Contact
Reminder PowerSchool (PS) Maintenance Weekend
Coordinator Contact Information for the Federal
Government
The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) may have communicated with
each LEA and Charter school indicating they should verify school and contact
information in the Advanced Website System (AWS). This communication was
sent erroneously. As a service, NCDPI will provide updated school
and OCR contact information on behalf of all North Carolina public schools;
therefore, LEAs and Charter schools do not need to verify the school and
contact information in the AWS. An updated schools list has been sent to
the OCR in preparation of the upcoming collection.
NCDPI requested that all Districts and Charters verify
and update/add an Office of Civil Rights Coordinator and a Student Information
Coordinator contact in the EDDIE system by Friday, September 9, 2016. Due
to challenges with the EDDIE system last week, NCDPI will extend the
deadline to close of business Wednesday, September 21, 2016.
Please ensure your LEAs or Charter has updated this information in EDDIE.
Please contact Terra Dominguez at terra.dominguez@dpi.nc.gov for questions or concerns.

Charters and NC Virtual Public School
Effective with the 2016-17 school year, the
administration of NC Final Exams (NCFEs) is optional for charter schools.
An exception to this
policy is for charter school students enrolled in courses through the North
Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS). These students must participate in the
corresponding NCFEs. This includes charter school students enrolled in Occupational Course of Study (OCS) courses through NCVPS.

2016-2017 Regional Compliance Forums for All Homeless Liaisons
Did you know that the appointed homeless liaison in an
LEA or a charter school is
required to attend scheduled compliance forums per U.S.C. §
11432(g)(1)(F)(ii) of the McKinney-Vento Act?
NC Homeless Education Program (NC HEP) conducts compliance forums in each region to assist school
districts and charters in understanding how to ensure: school personnel are identifying and
enrolling students immediately, services are being provided, and barriers to
education are eliminated.
With the ESSA McKinney-Vento amendments becoming
effective October 1st, 2016, the implications for implementing McKinney-Vento
in your districts will be reviewed. Additionally, these forums provide learning opportunities to
discuss the challenges and requirements in the delivery of services and to
share best practices.
Liaisons should plan to attend the Compliance Forum in their
region. This year's forums are being
conducted September 23rd through October 20th, so, register today for the Compliance Forum in your region.
Note: new homeless liaisons who attended the New Homeless
Liaison Compliance Orientation (NHLCO) are still required to attend the compliance
forum scheduled for their region. These regional forums contain information
that supplements information received during the NHLCO.
For more information (e.g., check dates, or access a draft
agenda), visit the NCHEP Regional Compliance Forums web page.

region today!
