NC Moves Up in WalletHub
Public School Rankings
North Carolina
public schools moved up to 19th in the state
public school rankings published annually by WalletHub, a personal finance website that launched in August 2013. North
Carolina previously was ranked 37th by the website.
State
Superintendent June Atkinson highlighted this ranking in her monthly report to
the State Board of Education last week. She noted that WalletHub’s ranking
considered measures of school quality (80 points) and school system safety (20
points) in making its rankings.
“North Carolina’s
improved ranking illustrates the ongoing commitment that local teachers and
other educators have to serving every student’s educational needs. I
congratulate each of our 115 school districts and 167 charter schools for their
continued focus on student learning and excellence,” Atkinson said.
WalletHub’s
analysts compared the quality of education in the 50 states and the District of
Columbia to highlight top-performing school systems. In making such a
comparison, analysts examined each state and the District across 17 key
metrics, ranging from student-teacher ratio to average SAT and ACT scores to dropout
rate.
