Seeking Feedback on Math I, II, and III Content Standards
Parents, educators and others are invited to provide feedback regarding
proposed revisions to the content standards for high school math courses Math
I, II and III via a survey available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HSMathDraftStandards. The
survey will be available through May 20.
The NC Department of Public Instruction reviews the state’s Standard Course
of Study on a five-year cycle per subject, and mathematics is currently under
review. The State Board of Education approves content standards for all
subjects.
So far in that review process, the Department has engaged local teachers and
curriculum leaders in reviewing content standards in small groups, through
detailed surveys and in focus groups. Information from other resources,
including the Academic Standards Review Commission’s December recommendations,
was also included in the process.
As a result of this feedback, modifications
to the sequencing and revisions for clarity of the
standards have been proposed. Background documents regarding these changes are attached
below.
As proposed, the changes could go into effect as early as the fall of 2016.
The State Board of Education has heard presentations on the revision process
and the specific revisions proposed over the past two months. Action could
occur at the June meeting of the State Board of Education.

Common Education Data Analysis and Reporting System (CEDARS) Update
The NC DPI CEDARS team reminds LEAs and charters to
review accounts in order to assist with record keeping. Please review the
CEDARS accounts to determine if there are any users whose status needs to be
updated. For example, there may be an administrator who is no longer
employed with the school, or there may be an employee who is currently listed
for a role that he/she no longer uses.
Because users authenticate using their NCID User Name and
Password, it is important to regularly review the CDW registration system and
disable any users that are no longer employed in your LEA or charter. Once each
user role for that account is disabled there is no longer any risk that
your previous employee will be able to access your LEA’s or charter's data if their NCID is
re-activated in another LEA or charter. Please note: if the user role you are
trying to disable is ‘Security Office’, please contact the CEDARS team with the
user name.
It is also important to remember that users rarely need
multiple roles for the CDW. For example, if a user selects the role of
LEA/Charter Detail Answers, this role includes report writing capabilities,
access to LEA and School level Detail dashboards, and LEA and School level
Aggregate dashboards. This person does not need to register for any other
role in the system. If you notice users selecting more than one role for
the CDW, determine if they are asking for access to multiple schools within
your LEA or charter or if they are just selecting more roles than they need.
For more information about security administration and user
roles, please the following webpage: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/cedars/reporting/registration/
The CEDARS Team hopes this notice proves useful to all
Security Officers. Please contact Terra Dominguez with questions or concerns @ Terra.dominguez@dpi.nc.gov.
