August is officially Clear the Shelter month across the nation, and right here at the Sampson County Animal Shelter, weâre gearing up to help every pet find a loving home!
Mark your calendars for August 24th through the 29th. For one week only, all adoption fees are completely waived!
We are making it easier than ever to drop by and meet your new best friend:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: We will open our regular operating hours.
Tuesday and Thursday: We will extend evening hoursâwe're open late until 7:00 PM!
Saturday: We are open for weekend visits from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Whether you are looking for a playful pup or a cozy cat, your perfect match is waiting.
Come clear the shelter with us August 24th through 29th!

Public Transportation Launches New Fare-Free Services to Expand Access
Sampson County Public Transportation is expanding transportation options for residents and students with the launch of two new fare-free services designed to improve access to education, healthcare, employment, government services, and other essential destinations.
The new services, the SCC Campus Connector and the Sampson Connector, reflect the county's ongoing commitment to connecting communities and removing transportation barriers for residents.

Summer Tomato and White Bean Salad
August brings some of the best tomatoes of the year, and this month's recipe is a simple way to put them to use. This tomato and white bean salad comes together in minutes, needs no stove time, and pairs perfectly with whatever's already on the grill. It's proof that eating well doesn't have to mean more time in the kitchen.

Tomato and White Bean Salad
Serves 4 people
Â
Ingredients:
- 2Â large ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1Â (15 oz) can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
- ½ cucumber, diced
- 1/3Â red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 3 tablespoons tbsp olive oil
- 1 tablespoons tbsp red wine vinegar
- ½ teaspoons tsp salt
- 1/3 teaspoons tsp black pepper
- 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese

Directions:
- Prep the vegetables: Dice the large ripe tomatoes and cucumber, and thinly slice the red onions
- Combine:Â In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, cannellini beans, cucumber, onion, and basil.
- Make the dressing: Whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper.
- Toss and rest: Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently. Let sit for 10 minutes so the flavors combine.
- Top and serve: Sprinkle with feta cheese just before serving.
