City of Raleigh Suspends Garbage Collection

Due to weather-related safety concerns, the City of Raleigh Department of Solid Waste Services has suspended all collection services. Collection of garbage and recyclables will resume on customer’s regular service day, beginning on Tuesday, February 24. Yard waste collections are suspended until March 3 so that crews can concentrate on collecting garbage and recycling. Read More


Rental Registration Program Annual Renewals Period March 1 through April 30

The City of Raleigh is sending rental registration renewal forms to approximately 9,000 registered owners of more than 54,000 rental properties.

All landlords in Raleigh are required to register their rental property with the City of Raleigh. Rental properties are required to be registered, regardless of the number of units. The registration period is from March 1 to April 30. Rental registration renewal forms are sent to the last known address of the property owner prior to the start of registration period. It is crucial that any changes of ownership or mailing address be reported to ensure receipt of a correct renewal notice. Read More


Raleigh Reschedules Human Relations Commission Awards Banquet

The City of Raleigh Human Relations Commission’s annual awards banquet has been rescheduled due to the inclement weather.

The banquet was originally set to be held tonight but has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 306 of the Raleigh Convention Center.

The banquet honors the recipients of the Human Relations Awards. The awards, given each year since 1989, recognize those who contribute to positive human relations in Raleigh. The theme of this year’s banquet is “Bridge Builders.”

City Hosts Raleigh Arts Plan Community Engagement Week

The City’s Office of Raleigh Arts will host a Community Engagement Week March 7 through 11 as part of the development of the Raleigh Arts Plan, a 10-year master plan to strengthen arts and culture for all of Raleigh’s communities and people. Read More


City of Raleigh to Hold Open House for AWL Education Center at Annie Louise Wilkerson, M.D. Nature Preserve Park

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department will hold open house sessions for the public at the AWL Education Center at Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve Park, 5229 Awls Haven Road. The open houses will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28; and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, March 8, 15, 22, and 29. Read More

Joint Waterline Replacement and Street Calming Project Closes Portion of Glascock Street

The City of Raleigh has closed the 300 to700 blocks of Glascock Street between Watauga Street and North State Street to replace a waterline and install traffic calming measures on Brookside Drive.
The work is expected to be complete within 10 to 14 weeks.  The waterline replacement project is part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program projects.

Portions of Glascock Street and side streets off of Glascock Street within this construction area will be accessible to local residents and local traffic only. Other motorists should avoid this area if possible. Traffic delays are to be expected.
 
The following is a detour around the work site:
  • Motorists traveling eastbound on Glascock Street will turn left onto Watauga Street, right onto Frank Road, right onto Brookside Drive, left onto Edmunds Street, right onto N. State Street, and left back onto Glascock Street; and,
  • Motorists traveling westbound on Glascock Street will turn right onto North State Street, left onto Edmunds Street, right onto Brookside Drive, left onto Frank Road, left onto Watauga Street and right back onto Glascock Street
Customers in this area should not experience any interruption of water service. If water service interruption is necessary, residents will be notified in advance.

March 6 E. Hargett Street will be closed from Fayetteville Street to Wilmington Street from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. 

March 7 Traffic will be affected downtown from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. for a road race. S. Blount Street will be closed from E. Hargett Street to E. Martin Street from 9 a.m. to noon. The following streets will be closed from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

  •  S. Blount Street from E. Martin Street to E. Davie Street;
  • S. Person Street from E. Hargett Street to E. Cabarrus Street;
  • E. Martin Street from S. Wilmington Street to S. Bloodworth Street; and,
  • E. Davie Street from S. Wilmington Street to S. Bloodworth Street.

March 7 Traffic will also be affected by a road race from 8 a.m. until noon near Broughton High School. A map of the course is online.
March 7 Traffic will also be affected in Glenwood South. Glenwood Avenue between Tucker and Lane streets, and W. North Street between Boylan Avenue and N. West Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to midnight. 
March 14 Traffic will be affected On Glenwood South from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Glenwood Avenue will be closed between Tucker Street and W. Lane Street. West North Street will be closed between Boylan Avenue and N. West Street from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
