Chavis Conversation Kickoff Meeting

Chavis Park Community Conversation

Many thanks to each of the 57+ participants at the Kickoff Public Forum on August 11th, including community residents, Councilman Weeks and Mayor McFarlane! The event was a success thanks to you!

Parks and Recreation System Plan

The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department will kick off its System Plan in September. The new System Plan project will be a 16 month comprehensive process that will shape the direction, development, and delivery of the city’s parks and recreation services over the next 20 years.

Halifax Park and Community Center

The construction contract for the renovation and expansion of Halifax Park has been awarded to Bradley Construction Inc. Construction is anticipated to start this fall.

Mordecai Historic Park Interpretive Center

City Council approved the schematic design for the new interpretive center on August 7 and the required Parking and Transitional Protective Yard variances have been granted by the Board of Adjustment. 

SE Raleigh Tennis Center at Barwell Road Park

The design contract has been awarded to HagerSmith Design PA. The total project budget is $5 million of which $4 million will come from the bond program and $1 million from private contributions.

A public presentation and review of the draft Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Gardens Expansion Master Plan will take place at the September Meeting of the Parks Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board.
