Habitat for Humanity, City of Raleigh Provide New Houses for Long Acres Community; Dedication Set for Saturday
Habitat for Humanity of Wake County will dedicate four new houses on Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at 604 Parnell St. in the Long Acres neighborhood. The City of Raleigh provided the lots to Habitat for Humanity for the new houses as part of a neighborhood revitalization effort. A community celebration with food, music, and activities for children will be held following the dedication ceremony.
The four houses were sponsored by the City of Raleigh, Home Depot and 12 area churches that comprise Habitat for Humanity’s Apostle Build coalition. The City of Raleigh, using federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 funds to acquire foreclosed, blighted homes, demolished the houses and transferred the lots to Habitat Wake to build new houses for homebuyers with low incomes.
The four new houses --- three of which are new construction and one rehabbed home --- are part of Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. The initiative is a comprehensive program which partners residents, volunteers, municipalities, other non-profits, churches and corporate sponsors to renew distressed neighborhoods.
Due to limited parking, people attending Saturday’s dedication are asked to park behind Mount Peace Baptist Church at 1601 Martin Luther King Blvd. Free shuttles will leave at 10:40 a.m. to take people to the dedication and will return riders to the parking lot after the ceremony.
