Preliminary investigation indicates that a silver Toyota RAV4 was traveling northbound on S. New Hope Road at a high rate of speed while passing the Rogers Lane intersection. The vehicle traveled into the median and struck a small tree. The impact caused the vehicle to slide sideways on the driver’s side into a larger tree farther down the median. The Toyota RAV4 then struck the larger tree with the roof of the vehicle before overturning and coming to rest in the opposite travel lanes of S. New Hope Road.
As a result of the crash, two passengers died from their injuries.
The driver, Jonathan De Loera Olmos (19), was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. He has been charged with Driving While Impaired and Felony Death by Motor Vehicle.
