Glow in the Dark Centerline Stripe Survey
In April of 2025, the City of Raleigh’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, applied a glow-in-the-dark centerline stripe to a one-mile section of the Crabtree Creek Trail, between Atlantic Avenue and Kiwanis Park. The intent of this application is to test whether or not glow-in-the-dark paint might improve user experience and safety during low-light conditions. While this product has the potential to benefit all greenway trail users, commuters are the most impacted by shifting hours of daylight throughout the year. Using the greenway system to commute is fairly easy when daylight hours are long in the summer but less so in the winter months when the sun sets early. Now that we are in the early sunset period of the year, we’d like to hear your thoughts on the stripe’s effectiveness, primarily in its ability to extend use during the evening hours. Please visit our Glow-in-the-Dark Centerline Paint Survey page to let us know what you think.

Marsh Creek Greenway Feasibility and Preliminary Design
The Marsh Creek Greenway project, funded from the 2022 Parks Bond, will provide a 6.5-mile continuous trail along Marsh Creek, connecting the existing Crabtree Creek Trail north to Spring Forest Road. The trail will connect several communities as well as provide connections to Hill Street Park, Brentwood Park and Elementary School, Green Road Park, and Millbrook Exchange Park. By connecting these communities to the larger park system, the Marsh Creek Greenway Trail will offer much-needed recreational access to a broader portion of Raleigh’s population.
The City’s consultants, Alta Planning + Design along with STV Engineering, are currently in the planning and feasibility phase of the project, which is expected to conclude in the Summer of 2026. The consultant team will then transition to schematic design from the Summer of 2026 through the Summer of 2027. Please visit the Marsh Creek Greenway | Raleighnc.gov page for upcoming public engagement opportunities.

Winter Safety on Greenways
Our sunsets are getting later each day but that doesn't mean winter if over just yet. With shorter days and colder temperatures, here are some important safety rules and tips to guide you through the season:
- Remember that all Greenways are closed from dusk until dawn.
-
Avoid use of the Greenway system during and immediatelyfollowing ice and/or snowstorms, allowing time for the trails to clear when temperatures warm.
- Be aware of standing water or wet areas that may be icy.
-
Wooden structures retain moisture longer than asphalt or concrete pavement. So slow down and proceed with caution when transitioning between these areas.
- Wear warm clothing, preferably in multiple layers, while using the Greenway system during winter months.
- And as always, be courteous when sharing the trail!
