Artist Susan Brabeau to Appear At Municipal Building’s

Art Gallery on May 17

Artist Susan Brabeau will appear at a free artist talk on Thursday, May 17, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery in the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 West Hargett St. Ms. Brabeau’s artwork, “Imprint,” is on display in the art gallery. Attendees are welcome to bring their lunch to hear the artist.

Ms. Brabeau will convene the talk on the second floor of the art gallery, just outside the City Council chamber. After a brief introduction, she will take participants on a tour of the gallery and discuss her paintings.

A self-taught painter, Ms. Brabeau creates detailed and vivid depictions of scenes of everyday life from earlier times, with humor and figural expressions factoring prominently in her work. These illustrated idyllic moments of the past contrast with the hectic and constantly connected atmosphere of today.

Much of Ms. Brabeau’s life training comes from being a big band singer and a New York actress. Last year, she earned her third Best of Show Award at the North Carolina State Fair. She also won the Purchase Award from the State agricultural commissioner. Ms. Brabeau took first place in the Fine Arts League of Cary’s 2011 “Juried Painting and Sculpture Exhibition.” Ms. Brabeau is a wife and mother and is devoted to the rescue and care of animals.
