Get ready, Raleigh! Starting mid-August, you’ll be seeing a new wave of electric bikes zipping around town. The City of Raleigh is teaming up with Spin and Lime to launch a dockless bikeshare pilot that will make it easier than ever to hop on a bike and go.
Up to 215 electric-assist bikes will hit the streets as part of this pilot, which will run through April 2026. Unlike traditional bikeshare systems that rely on docking stations, this new dockless model lets you grab a bike, ride where you need to go, and park it in designated micromobility corrals—or any appropriate public bike parking spot—when you’re done. No docks, no hassle.
This pilot is a fresh take on bikeshare based on lessons learned and feedback from Raleigh residents like you. It’s also the next step in growing Raleigh’s shared micromobility program, which already includes electric scooters. Since the program began, Raleigh riders have logged over 1.9 million miles—cutting down car trips by an estimated 550,000 miles and helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 100 metric tons.
“This is an opportunity to build on the success of the micromobility program, expand access and flexibility to the bikeshare system, and measure if this new model has an impact on bikeshare usage in the city,” said Kenneth Ritchie, Assistant Transportation Director.
Here’s What You Can Expect:
-
Dockless e-bikes from Spin and Lime will be available across Raleigh starting mid-August 2025.
-
Bikes will be accessible 24/7—ride anytime you need.
-
New micromobility corrals (special parking zones) will be set up to help keep sidewalks and public spaces tidy.
-
You’ll have opportunities to share feedback throughout the pilot. Your input will help shape the future of bikeshare in Raleigh.
As part of this transition, the City will begin removing the current docked bikeshare stations in mid-August.
