City of Raleigh Names Three Finalists for Police Chief 

Raleigh is considering three candidates for its next police chief, City Manager Marchell Adams-David announced today. 

The candidates are:

  • Rico Boyce, Deputy Chief of Administration for Raleigh Police Department;  
  • Sonia (pronounced so-NEE-ah) Russell, Commander of Crime Control Strategies for the Detroit Police Department; and  
  • Joshua Wallace, Commander of the Criminal Network Group in the Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism.

The candidates will meet the community at a forum at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Fletcher Opera Theater in the Martin Marietta Center for Performing Arts. The discussion will be moderated by Adrienne Cole, president and CEO of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and Tiesha Mosley, the City’s director of Community Engagement. 

The successful candidate will take leadership of the Raleigh Police Department after Chief Estella Patterson retires on March 1.
