I'm proud to look back on the steps we took to improve the permitting process for our clients and stakeholders last year. In 2024, we focused on clear and timely communication to address client questions and concerns. Raleigh Permits is dedicated to making services more predictable, timely, and high-quality. Customers like you have been instrumental in our continuous improvement efforts.
We look forward to building on this momentum in 2025 with two key themes:
Educating Clients on the Permitting Process: We will prioritize client education through quarterly stakeholder meetings, Planning Academy, and updating resources and enhancing guidance tailored to meet your needs.
Streamlining Processes: We will focus on identifying opportunities to simplify our procedures. Raleigh Permits is currently reviewing the permitting for retaining walls and building plan revisions.
This year, we will continue to serve you with excellence. We are enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead. Thank you for your continued partnership and trust in our team. Together, we look forward to another year of progress and success.

About SB 382 / Session Law 2024-57
On Dec. 11, 2024, the North Carolina General Assembly passed Session Law 2024-57 (originally called SB 382). The legislation includes revisions to North Carolina General Statute 160D-Local Planning and Development Regulation that impact local government authority. These revisions impact the City of Raleigh’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) amendments going back to June 14, 2024, that pertain to nonconformities in non-residential zoning districts and downzoning.
Planning and Development is evaluating these changes and will identify any possible changes to the UDO as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have questions regarding the changes, contact the Planning and Development Customer Service Center through the Customer Request Form or at 919-996-2500.
