On Saturday, December 12, 1998, at approximately 7:54 a.m., the Raleigh Police Department (RPD) responded to a report of a deceased person in the 600 block of Gaston Street. Upon arrival, officers located Bernard Walker, 36, suffering from stab wounds. Walker died as a result of his injuries.
In 2007, the City-County Bureau of Identification (CCBI) developed a palm print database and began scanning palm prints into it. In January 2008, a positive match was made to a palm print recovered from the crime scene. This palm print belonged to Eduardo Corona Gonzalez, 45. An arrest warrant was issued for Gonzalez on January 3, 2008, however, Gonzalez had been deported on February 12, 2002.
On November 20, 2024, the RPD was notified that Gonzalez had been detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Arizona as a result of a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) hit. Gonzalez was then taken into custody.
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, custody of Eduardo Gonzalez was transferred to the Raleigh Police Department, where he was processed at the Wake County Detention Center on the murder charge.
