RPD Family,
We need your help. Officer Stephanie (Netherland) Rivers recently celebrated her 20th anniversary with the Raleigh Police Department. She joined the 84th Academy in August 2004. She spent 12 years working in the Northwest District before transferring to the Family Violence Intervention Unit, where she has dedicated herself to helping domestic violence victims for the past eight years. Stephanie is known for her kindness, willingness to lend a hand, and sense of humor.
On November 6, 2023, Stephanie was diagnosed with a Level Four Glioblastoma, a fast-growing, aggressive, cancerous brain tumor. She underwent major surgery to remove 95% of the tumor, which affected the portion of her brain controlling motor skills. The surgery, along with six weeks of daily chemo and radiation, has left her with limited use of her left arm and left leg.
Stephanie continues to undergo heavy doses of chemo every six weeks, along with infusions every two weeks and a rigorous daily medication routine. She has been using a wheelchair and walker as she fights to stay strong. Stephanie is married to her husband Chris, and they have two children, Reagan (4 years-old) and Ryan (2 years-old).
A fundraising initiative is underway to reconfigure Stephanie's bathroom, making it accessible for wheelchair and walker use. They are seeking help from the RPD Family for skills, materials, time, or financial contributions to make this happen. Chris, Stephanie's husband, is willing to assist, although his experience lies mainly in large mechanical machinery and hydraulics as an elevator mechanic. If anyone has experience in bathroom renovations, please get in touch with Lieutenant Julie Little. Additionally, donations to Officer Stephanie River's GoFundMe will help make her more comfortable and keep her spirits high.
Any amount of donation is sufficient. Let's unite for Officer Rivers and her family.
