On Friday, March 22, 2024, Lontren Lawrence Walker, 49, was charged in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in 1998.
The evidence in this case was included as part of the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) initiated by the NC Department of Justice.
The investigation and subsequent arrest resulted from a positive match from the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). CODIS is a national database that is made up of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons.
Walker has been charged with:
Felony- First-Degree Rape
Felony- First-Degree Kidnapping
Felony- Assault Inflicting Serious Physical Bodily Injury by Strangulation
Felony- Attempted Murder
