On Thursday, February 22, 2024, at approximately 2:06 p.m., officers were in the parking lot of 1100 Raleigh Boulevard, attempting to take a suspect into custody, when an officer was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. The officer was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. A portion of the parking lot was blocked off while the incident was being investigated.
Mazaye Anthony James, 18, was arrested and charged in connection with this incident.
James was charged with the following:
- Felony- Assault With A Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury
- Felony- Assault With A Deadly Weapon Upon Government Employee
- Felony- Speeding to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle
- Felony- Resist Delay or Obstruct a Public Officer Causing Serious Injury
- Felony- Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance
- Three counts of Misdemeanor- Injury to Personal Property
- Misdemeanor-Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Misdemeanor-Reckless Driver to Endanger
