Update:
The Raleigh Police Department has made an arrest in connection with this incident.
Jamal Johnson, 29, has been charged with the homicide of Christian Johnson, 27.
Johnson has been charged with the following:
- Murder
- Felony- Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
This is an ongoing investigation.

The following release was distributed on January 7, 2024, at 8:43 p.m.
On January 6, 2024, at approximately 4:00 AM, the Raleigh Police Department responded to the Checkmate Lounge at 2200 East Millbrook Road for reports of a person shot. Officers located two victims inside the club. One adult male victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound. He remains hospitalized.
Another adult male also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to the injuries.
This incident is an ongoing homicide investigation.
