On Monday, November 6, 2023, Erwin King, 58, was taken into custody and charged in connection with a 1998 sexual assault case that occurred in the 5500 block of Duraleigh Road in Raleigh.
The evidence in this case was included as part of the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative initiated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in 2019.
The investigation and subsequent arrest resulted from a positive match from the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). CODIS is a national database that is made up of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons.
King has been charged with:
- Felony First-Degree Rape
- Felony First-Degree Kidnapping
