Raleigh makes it to the Next Round!

The City of Raleigh has been selected as a finalist for a grant of up to $1 million through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Art Challenge! We are one of 17 finalist cities chosen from more than 150 project proposals across 40 states! 

This program supports temporary public art projects that address important civic issues while bringing people together, celebrating creativity, and strengthening local economies. This fall, Bloomberg Philanthropies will select up to 10 winning cities to execute their projects over the next two years.

Now on View: Voices of Oberlin Exhibit

Huge thanks to everyone who attended the Voices of Oberlin Reception last week! If you haven't checked it out yet, the newest Block Gallery exhibit explores the memories of Oberlin community members through portraiture and oral histories, with portraits taken by artist Derrick Beasley and photographer Teresa Moore. Curated by Michael S. Williams, photographs of 20 community members and QR codes linking to their oral histories are displayed for viewers to interact with. 

This is a collaboration between Friends of Oberlin Village and Raleigh Arts.

SEEK Raleigh Events to Check Out!

If you're new here, SEEK Raleigh is an experimental public art program by Raleigh Arts that engages the community through public art in City of Raleigh Parks, greenways, and/or community spaces. 

In the coming weeks, several events and installations will pop up around the Raleigh area. The newest one to debut is Tessellatean immersive installation with light and shadow by Artist Oliver Lewis, coming to Dix Park! This installation is free, and people of all ages are encouraged to participate in this stunning merger between art and science.

Create Your Own Art at Lions Park

As part of his We Art a Village community series and the Raleigh Stories Project, artist Justin Perry is facilitating a free art-making workshop for community members to create artwork that he will later incorporate into a larger mural.

Dates: July 6, 6-8pm at Lions Park playground
