At approximately 12 p.m., Raleigh police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4200 block of Brockton Drive where they located a shooting victim who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Officers responding to the scene identified a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle description. The vehicle then fled and a short pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and New Hope Road. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital for evaluation. The subject then exited the vehicle he was driving and shot multiple rounds at officers striking at least two patrol vehicles. Officers returned fire but did not strike anyone. Officers deployed their Tasers in an attempt to take the subject into custody. He was subsequently taken into custody. No officers or bystanders were injured. The incident is still under investigation and motorists are advised to avoid the area. Charges will be forthcoming. No further information is available at this time.

"This senseless act of violence is intolerable," stated Chief Patterson. "I am thankful for the courageous actions of our officers to safely take the subject into custody without incident."
