Greenway Alert - Capital Area Greenway System Update

Heavy rainfall from the recent weather event caused flooding along portions of the Capital Area Greenway System.

The following trails are not passable due to flooding and heavy silt in sections:
  • Walnut Creek Trail from M/M 0 to 13.75
  • Shelley Lake Trail
  • Neuse River Trail from M/M  18.75 to 27.5

As crews work on making trails passable, we'll update the information on this page. Do not attempt to cross flood waters covering any section of the Capital Area Greenway System. On segments of the Greenway System that are clear of flood waters, take extra caution and slow down when transitioning from asphalt and/or concrete trail segments to wooden bridges and structures. Wood takes longer to dry after rain events and is a naturally smoother surface than asphalt or concrete. These characteristics result in wood surfaces having less traction than asphalt or concrete. Use caution, be safe and enjoy the Capital Area Greenway System.
