Applications now being accepted for 2018 Citizens Police Academy

The Raleigh Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2018 Citizens Police Academy. The program is designed to increase transparency and enhance understanding between the community and the police. It will also provide an excellent opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the philosophy, policies, and guiding principles of law enforcement and the ethical conduct requirements that govern police services in our community.

Participants will meet one evening a week for ten weeks beginning April 5. Citizens who enroll will learn about a variety of topics including constitutional law and arrest, search and seizure, non-biased policing, investigative case review, body-worn cameras, youth services, drug recognition, and crisis intervention. The class will also feature reality-based training demonstrations.

Applications will be accepted beginning February 26 and will close on March 9 at 5 p.m. Enrollment is limited to citizens who are at least 21 years of age and who live or are employed in the city of Raleigh. There is no fee for the program; however, the Department requests that applicants be committed to participating for its duration.
