City of Raleigh Accepting Applications to Fund Sustainable Stormwater Options for Residents and Businesses
The City of Raleigh is accepting applications for its Stormwater Quality Cost Share Program. The program offers residents and businesses an affordable way to install a device on their property that treats stormwater runoff and reduces pollution to Raleigh’s waterways. Participants may receive up to 90 percent reimbursement for their project depending on its proximity to high-priority streams and lakes.
“Through this program, we have a unique opportunity to work with and support citizens who are interested in capturing stormwater runoff from their property using a water quality device, like a rain garden or cistern, that cleans rainwater before it enters storm drains and local streams,” said Lory Willard, Stormwater Quality Cost Share Program manager for the City of Raleigh.
“Together, we can significantly reduce water quality impacts to the waterways that we rely on to sustain a healthy and vibrant community,” said Willard.
Accepted projects include, but are not limited to, rain gardens, permeable pavement, cisterns, disconnecting downspouts, green roofs, wetlands, and tree wells.
After a project is approved, participants share the design of their device with City staff, allow staff to observe construction of the device, and agree to maintain the device for 10 years to monitor the condition of it overtime.
