Raleigh Takes National Arts & Disability Stage

LEAD conference presentation

At the annual Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability Conference this month in Pittsburgh, Raleigh demonstrated its commitment to engaging people with disabilities in the arts. VAE’s Brandon Cordrey and PineCone’s Jamie Katz Court collaborated with the Chicago Humanities Festival to present on accessibility for festivals and multi-venue events; Office of Raleigh Arts’ Sarah Corrin and United Arts Council’s Ragen Carlile presented on how to develop and launch learning community programs; and NCSU Computer PhD student Sina Bahram presented on his work with institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Chicago’s Contemporary Art Museum to increase web and social media accessibility. Thanks to participation growth in our Arts Learning Community for Universal Access, Raleigh had the 4th largest contingent at the conference behind Boston, Chicago and New York City!

SEEING BEYOND THE STRUCTURES [PORTRAITS OF THE LANDSCAPE]
Artists Adam Bellefeuil, Rachel Campbell and Caitlin Cary memorialize the modest structures we interact with in our daily environment. We stroll through residential streets, drive past fading buildings and visit neighborhood businesses without really considering their sense of place and what they might mean to the communities and individuals occupying them. The works in this exhibition challenge us to stop and take notice.

On view through November 11 Learn more
