BLOG EXCERPT: Rediscovering the solitary joy of reading When I was a little girl, I used to spend whole afternoons perched
in a tree in my overgrown backyard in Raleigh’s Cameron Park, reading books for
hours while eating fresh tomato sandwiches on toast. I can still feel the sharp
bite of toast in my mouth and the sting of tomato as I turned the pages, lost
in my own private world. God knows there was no shortage of books for me to
choose from, and little supervision over what I read. Read more
