May is Older Americans Month!
The 2026 theme, Champion Your Health, focuses on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. County parks can play a powerful role in helping older Americans truly champion their health, not just by providing space, but by creating opportunities for consistent and meaningful wellness habits. Time outdoors has been linked to reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and improved mood. Parks offer a natural, low-cost way to support mental and emotional wellness, which is just as important as physical health as we age. County parks don’t just support healthy aging, they empower older adults to take charge of their health in ways that are enjoyable, sustainable, and rooted in community.
