North Carolina Arbor Day
Arbor Day is celebrated nationally on the last Friday of April, however, most states observe a state Arbor Day depending on the best times for planting trees in their state. This year, NC Arbor Day will be celebrated on March 18. Here are some things you can do to celebrate NC Arbor Day:
- Plant a tree!
- Get outside and spend some time in nature.
- Learn about tree identification.
- Give trees a clean place to grow by picking up litter.
- Attend one of the following events:
Tree Giveaway at Legion Stadium Saturday, March 12 from 9am-12pm (or until trees run out) The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees will be giving out over 2000 free trees. More Information
Tree Walk at Airlie Gardens Wednesday, March 16 from 1-2:30pm Cost: $9/Adults, $5/NHC Residents & Military, $3/Child (age 4-12) and Free for Airlie Members Slow-paced walk around Airlie Gardens to explore our early spring blooms and beautiful trees. Pre-registration is required at AirlieGardens.org.
Naturalist Walk at Pages Creek Park Preserve Saturday, March 19 from 9:30-10:30am Free Program Guided walk around Pages Creek Park Preserve to learn about the local flora and fauna. Pre-registration is required at Parks.NHCgov.com.
Call for Artists
Airlie Gardens is now accepting artist applications for the 2022 Art Exhibit Hoppy Times! Artists, or teams of artists, are invited to submit original designs to decorate, paint and/or adorn one of ten 4.5-foot-tall fiberglass rabbit sculptures. Visit AirlieGardens.org to learn more and submit your application by the March 15, 2022 deadline.

Accessible Bird Outing
Birding is fun for everyone! Join us for a guided tram ride around Airlie Gardens to explore our bird hotspots on March 15 at 8am. This program is ideal for birders of any experience level who may not have the mobility to walk for extended periods of time. Learn more and register at AirlieGardens.org.

Tennis Clinics
Senior Beginner Tennis The next 4-week beginner clinic for seniors, ages 55 and up, will take place at Echo Farms Park March 9-30 from 10:30-11:30am. Contact kmorgan@nhcgov.com or (910) 798-6403 for more information and to register.
Try Tennis In this program, for adults who have never played tennis before, participants will learn the basic skills necessary to play a beginner match. The $40 registration fee covers the six-week class, beginner adult tennis racket and Try Tennis towel. The upcoming session at Ogden Park will take place on Mondays 11am-12pm from March 14 - April 18. Homeschool Day at Airlie Gardens
Join us on Friday, March 11 from 10am-12pm for hands-on, standard-based educational programs just for homeschool students! This program is suitable for ages 4-13 with parent or guardian participation. Cost is $3/child and free for parent or guardian. Pre-registration is required at AirlieGardens.org.
