Happy New Year!
2020 looked a lot different from years past, but we made it through! One thing we learned for sure was how essential local parks and open spaces are to the community, especially during a health crisis. The staff of New Hanover County Parks & Gardens worked hard all year to keep your county parks open, clean and safe for all to enjoy. We are proud to serve the public every day by providing a place to have fun, improve physical and mental health, provide stress relief, increase socialization, promote environmental stewardship and build community through facilities and activities that are open to all people.
Here is a look back on some of the highlights from the past year:
- 166 new trees were planted in our county parks and other New Hanover County properties.
- Echo Farms Park celebrated the completion of park renovations including a brand new tennis and pool clubhouse in October.
- Airlie Gardens completed the final phase of an innovative stormwater project to enhance the garden’s ability to handle stormwater and maintain historic and environmental qualities.
- Design of the 42.5-acre "Battle Park" was completed in November.
- Airlie Gardens hosted is eighth annual art exhibit SQUIRRELS!
