July is National Park and Recreation Month
Since 1985, Americans have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote the importance parks and recreation has in health and well-being, conservation and social equity, and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — that maintain our country’s local, state and community parks.
This month, we'll be celebrating by highlighting the people who make sure our parks and programs are well-maintained, safe, inclusive and welcoming. Follow us on Facebook or visit Parks.NHCgov.com to "meet" some of these awesome staff who are providing essential services and making New Hanover County a better place to live, work and play. If you would like to share a personal story about how our county parks and/or staff has impacted you, please email jorich@nhcgov.com.

Are you practicing the 3 W's while using parks and gardens?
In line with Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 147, New Hanover County has implemented a face coverings policy for county employees and the public. Citizens are requested to wear a face covering while inside any county building or at any of the county’s outdoor facilities (like Airlie Gardens, the Arboretum, and county parks) when they are within six feet of others, except when strenuously exercising. Disposable face masks will be available to citizens inside county buildings, if needed, but customers will not be turned away or refused service if they do not wear a mask. For your safety, county employees who are within six feet of someone are required to wear a face covering unless they qualify for an exemption outlined in the executive order.
