Local parks and open spaces play a crucial role in the overall physical and mental health of a community. Parks also provide a much needed respite during challenging times such as the current Coronavirus outbreak.
New Hanover County's parks, trails, and open spaces remain open during regular operating hours at this time with some restrictions. The Coronavirus is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation. As such, it may be necessary to make changes to our operations as the situation evolves. The following list of facilities is accurate as of April 1, 2020. Before heading to a county park, please check Parks.NHCgov.com/COVID19 or our facebook page for the most up-to-date list of open facilities.

- Exercise Equipment/Outdoor Gyms

- Restrooms (and all enclosed spaces)
- Team Sports Facilities (Basketball, Volleyball Courts, Athletic Fields)
Please remember that people should not use parks or trails if exhibiting symptoms, and park visitors should practice social distancing in any public place. Thank you all for your patience as we work hard to serve the recreational needs of the community while doing our best to keep you safe.
Airlie Gardens
In compliance with New Hanover County's State of Emergency, Airlie Gardens is closed to the public until April 13th unless rescinded earlier or extended.
Airlie staff is working with schools and other groups who have planned trips to reschedule them. The Gardens' private events staff is working with currently booked clients on a case by case basis.

NHC Arboretum
The Arboretum gardens and NC State extension offices are closed to the public until further notice. Staff may be contacted at (910) 798-7660, and updates will be posted on our facebook page.
While our physical offices are closed, citizens can get questions answered through "Ask an Expert." This website offers one-to-one expert answers from Cooperative Extension/University staff and volunteers. Click here to "Ask an Expert."
