Happy New Year! 2019 was a great year for New Hanover County Parks & Gardens! Check out some of the highlights from the past year:
- Kings Grant Park received a new picnic shelter and outdoor gym.
- Airlie Gardens completed stormwater improvements to reduce the amount of pollution entering Airlie Gardens' lake and Bradley Creek.
- Underground drainage systems were added to multi-purpose fields at Eaton Elementary School (fields 1, 3 & 4) and Northern Regional Park (Red & Green fields).
- Echo Farms clay tennis courts were resurfaced, and buildings were demolished to make way for a new tennis/pool clubhouse facility. (Pool renovations will also be completed this year)
- The Arboretum celebrated milestone anniversaries:
-Ability Garden - 20 years -Arboretum - 30 years -Extension Master Gardeners - 40 years
- Airlie hosted its seventh annual art exhibit- HeART of the Gardens.

Airlie Gardens Winter Hours
Airlie Gardens will operate on the following Winter Schedule January 1 - February 29:
Open Tues-Sun: 9am-5pm Last admission is 4:30pm Closed on Mondays

TreeFest - Jan 17 & 18
Increase tree canopy and biodiversity in your yard by visiting TreeFest, inside Independence Mall in the JC Penney Court on Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18. A limited number of trees and native grasses will be available free of charge (a small donation is suggested to help fund future TreeFest events). The event will run 10am-5pm each day, or until trees run out.
