The Butterfly House at Airlie Gardens
The butterfly house is open for the season! The 2,700-square foot butterfly house is home to butterflies native to North Carolina. The number and kinds of butterflies you may see is dependent on the time of year, amount of sunshine available, temperature changes, and ecosystem stability. Some of the species you may see include Giant Swallowtail, Monarch, Gulf Fritillary, Red Admiral, and more! Admission to the butterfly house is included in garden admission.
Butterfly Releases
Airlie's educators will hold a butterfly release every Tuesday, June 11-Sept 3, from 2-3pm in the butterfly house. The program will begin with information on butterfly life cycles and the types of butterflies that are in the house that week. Afterwards, butterflies will be released into the butterfly house. In case of rain, the program will take place in the classroom, and guests will still be able to observe butterflies. This program is FREE for Airlie members and included with garden admission for all others. More Information
