Take a Child Outside Week - September 24-30th

Take a Child Outside Week is observed annually September 24-30th, and is an initiative of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.  It is designed to encourage children and adults to spend time together outdoors.  There are many benefits to spending time outside- it connects children to the natural world, helps kids focus in school, and reduces the chances of obesity.  Your county parks provide the perfect locations to get your family outside!  Visit Parks.NHCgov.com to learn about all the parks locations and amenities available to you!

Parks Updates

Parks & Gardens made a lot of progress in August on the many projects we have going on around the county.  Last month we completed the Veterans Park tennis court resurfacing, Pages Creek Park Preserve kayak storage, and Ogden Park baseball infield renovations.  We are currently working hard on the following projects:

-River Road Park Playground
The old playground at River Road Park will be removed on Tuesday, September 4th and construction on the new playground is scheduled to begin on Wed, Sept 5th.

-Kings Grant Park Renovations
The old basketball court has been removed, and the new court is under construction.  Later this fall, we will install the new playground, and build the new picnic shelter.

-Northern Regional Park Pickleball Courts

-Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at Hugh MacRae Park

-Ogden Skatepark drainage improvements

-Converting Veterans Park Orange field to a full-sized rectangular field

-Murray Middle School Soccer/Football Field Lights

Visit Parks.NHCgov.com or follow us on facebook for updates on these projects and more!
