Parks & Gardens strives to maintain and operate parks and facilities that enrich the lives of the community and promote an overall healthier lifestyle.
The New Hanover County Parks Conservancy is holding its next Trash Mob on Sat, Sept 9th from 9-11am and we need your help! No special skills are required and we will provide all the necessary supplies (bags, gloves, safety vests and pickers). All you need is the willingness and desire to help keep New Hanover County beautiful! We will park and meet at Parkwood Park- 4827 Canetuck Rd, Wilmington, NC 28411- at 8:45am and pick up trash along Harris Road from 9-11am. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and can participate as an individual or group. Email us or call (910) 798-7629 for more information or to sign up.
What's Happening at Airlie Gardens?
Summer Art Exhibit- Imagine If you haven't experienced the vibrant, whimsical display of sculptures by artist, Matthew J. Leavell, then this is your last chance! The exhibit runs through Sept 30th and is included in regular garden admission. More Information
New Event Series: Hops & Talks- Sept 13, 20, 27 & Oct 4 Join Airlie and local breweries this fall for our new 4-week series just for adults (age 21+)! Each week, we will host an interesting talk, or walk, and feature a local brewery in the gardens. Topics include butterflies, plants, Airlie's history and the Summer Exhibit, Imagine. Oyster Roast Tickets On Sale Now Airlie's Annual Oyster Roast is coming up on Fri, Oct 20th from 6-10pm and tickets are on sale now! Proceeds from this event support Airlie's Environmental Education programs, so get your tickets today before they sell out! More Information
2018 Summer Art Exhibit- Request for Qualification Airlie Gardens invites experienced artists or teams of artists qualified to produce or provide a collection of 10-14 large outdoor sculptures to be exhibited throughout the garden from June 30-Sept 30, 2018. Qualifications must be submitted no later than 4:30pm on Oct 17, 2017. CIick here for complete details.
Smith Creek Park Preserve
Have you been to the Smith Creek Park Preserve? The one- mile nature trail is located adjacent to Smith Creek Park at 633 Shenandoah Drive and can be accessed from the paved walking trail around the lake. Click here to visit the webpage and learn more about the preserve, including the plants and animals that live there. Earlier this spring, we added lights to the large dog section of the off-leash dog park at Ogden Park. Now it's the little dogs' turn! We expect the lighting in the small dog section to be completed by the end of this month. The lights will remain on until 10pm each night, giving you and your furry friends more time to play outside!
