The Knightdale Town Council adopted a $50.4 million budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027, following a unanimous vote during the Town Council meeting on June 17, 2026. The budget reflects the Town’s continued commitment to investments in public safety, infrastructure, community services, and sustainable growth. “This budget aligns with the goals of the Knightdale Strategic Plan and continues our legacy of exemplary service delivery to the residents of our community,” said Town Manager Bill Summers.
Property Tax Rate: There is no change in the property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. The current rate will remain $0.44 per $100 of assessed value. This rate will generate estimated revenues of $22,116,908.

The budget includes key investments in the following areas:
Major Capital / Capital Project Ordinances (CPO): Knightdale will invest approximately $3.6 million in major capital projects for FY27. Major capital projects represent multiyear fiscal investments.

- Completion of the Knightdale Law Enforcement Center
- Acquisition of Fire Engine and Tiller
- Acquisition of The Lofts Office Building
- Fire Station 2 Replacement
- Fire Station 3 Exterior Improvements
- Fire Station 5 Property Acquisition
- Widewaters Extension Bridge (design)
- Smithfield and First Avenues Sidewalks (design and right-of-way acquisition)
- Mingo Creek Park Restrooms (design)
Capital Improvement Projects (CIP): The annual CIP budget allocates $ 2.1 million from the General Fund to support key projects.

- Public Art Program
- Knightdale Boulevard Corridor Study
- Centennial Clock Project
- Harper Park Improvements
- Affordable Housing Trust
- Vision Zero Program
- McKnight Bus Stop Improvements.
Stormwater Program: The FY27 Budget allocates $1.6 million to the Town’s Stormwater Enterprise Fund.

- Poplar and Flowers Street Improvement Projects
- Creation of a Stormwater Master Plan
Personnel: The FY27 Budget recommends the allocation of an additional 10 new FTE positions, which represents a 5.5% workforce growth. The Town continues to make serious investments in its workforce to meet the increasing demands of service delivery as necessitated by population growth. The FY27 Budget ensures that all town positions exceed the Wake County living wage.

EV Stations Upgraded In Knightdale
 The Town of Knightdale is excited to share that its EV charging stations have been upgraded to better serve our community! In partnership with Charge OnSite, these enhancements will provide a smoother and more reliable charging experience for residents, visitors, and commuters.
Knightdale Station Park now features chargers upgraded from 32A to 40A, delivering charging speeds approximately 25% faster* than the previous devices. Town Hall now features chargers upgraded from 32A to 48A—and because this location uses a flex device, it can actually deliver 80A when a single port is active and 48A x 2 when both ports are active, enabling charging speeds up to 50% faster* than before.
To celebrate the upgrade—and America’s 250th birthday—EV drivers can enjoy 20% off their charging sessions at these locations with promo code America250 (valid through July 6).

The Knightdale Fire Department is proud to recognize several recent promotions within the organization that reflect the organization’s continued commitment to excellence and professional development.
After a distinguished 32-year career in the fire service, Battalion Chief William Boggs was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief. Chief Boggs has served as a Battalion Chief with the Knightdale Fire Department since 2020, consistently demonstrating exceptional professionalism, operational expertise, and a strong commitment to organizational excellence. In his new role as Assistant Fire Chief, Boggs will oversee the department’s administrative and support services functions. His responsibilities will include strategic planning, budget development, fleet and resource management, emergency management coordination, and ISO compliance. His proven leadership and depth of experience are expected to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the department’s long-term strategic initiatives.
Mark Guy was promoted from Captain to Battalion Chief. Chief Guy brings more than 20 years of fire service experience and has been a dedicated member of the Knightdale Fire Department since 2013. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to personnel development, operational excellence, and service to the community. He began serving as the B Shift Battalion Chief on June 10th, with responsibilities that include overseeing shift operations and ensuring the highest standards of emergency response and service delivery.
The department would like to congratulate Russell Strutton and Sterling Strickland on their exceptional performance in the recent promotional processes. Both demonstrated sound judgment, strong technical knowledge, and professionalism throughout the assessment and have earned promotions to the next rank. Russell Strutton has been promoted to Captain, and Sterling Strickland has been promoted to Lieutenant.
Knightdale's African American Festival Draws A Crowd
The Town of Knightdale proudly celebrated another successful African American Festival at Knightdale Station Park, bringing together hundreds of residents and visitors for an evening of music, culture, food, and community connection.
The festival featured live performances, local vendors, food trucks, community resource organizations, and family-friendly activities. Attendees enjoyed a vibrant celebration honoring the history, creativity, and contributions of African Americans in Knightdale and across the region.
Mayor Day praised the event’s impact on community unity and cultural appreciation.
“This festival reflects the heart of Knightdale, a community that celebrates diversity, honors history, and comes together to uplift one another,” said Mayor Day. “We are proud to host an event that highlights African American culture and brings joy, learning, and connection to families across our town.”

Members of Public Safety Participate in Annual Special Olympics Torch Run

Members of Knightdale Police and Knightdale Fire took part in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) for Special Olympics.
LETR is the largest year-round public awareness and grass-roots fundraising campaign for Special Olympics. Law enforcement members, also known as the "Guardians of the Flame," and Special Olympics athletes carry the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions. Our officers took the flame from Knightdale to the edge of town. They were met by members of the Wake County Sheriff's Office, who continued the Torch Run into Raleigh.
We are so grateful and proud of our law enforcement and public safety officers for their continued support of this event. Thank you for your service!
