The Town of Knightdale came together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country during our annual Memorial Day Ceremony.
This year’s keynote address was delivered by Lieutenant General Jack Shanahan. The 2026 program included the posting of colors by the North Carolina State University Air Force ROTC Honor Guard, the singing of the National Anthem by Ashley Elliott, the Pledge of Allegiance by Knightdale Police Sergeant and US Army Veteran, Rod Glahn, and prayers from Pastor James Utley.
The following veterans were recognized with newly engraved names on the memorial:

United States Navy
Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Thank you to our veterans, active-duty service members, military families, event participants, and everyone who joined us to pay tribute to our nation’s heroes. And of course, thank you to our staff and volunteers for all of your work, rain or shine; you helped make the event run so smoothly.

Introducing Our Business Of The Month - Worry Free Psychology
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and as part of the Town's recognition we want to highlight a local business making strides in the world of mental health. This month we are excited to announce Worry Free Psychology as our Business of the Month. Worry Free Psychology, is a local private practice dedicated to expanding access to mental health services in eastern Wake County. Founded by Amber Margaretten, the practice primarily provides psychological evaluations along with some therapy services. Amber recognized a significant gap in access to psychological testing in the community while working elsewhere in North Carolina, which inspired her to start her own practice to better serve the area she calls home.
With a strong passion for helping others, Amber was drawn to the mental health field as a way to address an often-overlooked but critical need. Worry Free Psychology’s mission is to make mental health services more accessible across the region and to simplify the process for clients, ensuring they feel supported and “worry free” when seeking care. Through her work, Amber has found the most rewarding aspect to be helping clients gain clarity and direction, empowering them to access the treatment and resources they need to succeed.
As a small business owner, Amber values the autonomy of running her own practice and the ability to tailor services to better meet the needs of her community. She also emphasizes the importance of accessible mental health resources in growing communities like Knightdale, noting that timely and quality care plays a key role in fostering overall well-being and stability for individuals and families.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, Amber encourages community members to prioritize both their mental and physical health, especially after what has been a challenging year for many. For those who may be hesitant to seek help, she wants residents to know that reaching out is the first step, and consultations are available to ensure clients feel comfortable and supported in their care journey.

Knightdale's Inaugural Pickin' In The Park A Great Success
Knightdale’s first Pickin’ in the Park with Prime BBQ was a tremendous success, bringing together residents, families, and local businesses for an evening filled with great food, music, and community spirit. The event saw an outstanding turnout, a clear reflection of how strongly our community supports opportunities to gather, connect, and celebrate what makes Knightdale special.
A highlight of the event was the partnership with Prime Barbecue, a true staple in Knightdale and a business that continues to play a vital role in shaping our local identity. Their involvement helped elevate the event experience and showcased the importance of supporting homegrown businesses that invest back into the community.
Beyond the fun and fellowship, Pickin’ in the Park also served a meaningful purpose as a fundraiser for the Raleigh Rescue Mission. The organization is currently working to build a new community in Knightdale dedicated to supporting women and children on their journey toward rehabilitation, stability, and recovery. The generosity shown by attendees and partners will help make a lasting impact on lives in our region.
With such a strong debut, Pickin’ in the Park has set the tone for future events that bring people together while making a difference. Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to making this inaugural event truly memorable.

 Mayor Jessica Day joined community members to welcome Unhinged Coffee & Co. to Knightdale during their official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Located on First Avenue, Unhinged sits right in the heart of town, and we could not be more excited to see them here. More than just a coffee shop, Unhinged is a place to connect and build community, and owners Jonny and Cody are already making a meaningful impact in the place they call home.

This month, our officers stepped onto the field to represent the Knightdale Police Department and Knightdale Fire Department in the Battle of the Badges softball tournament. It was a great day of competition, but the best part was the cause. All proceeds from the event went to Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina. This organization helps grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
We are proud to support our community and such a meaningful organization. Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer our team on!

 Mayor Day visited the Disabled American Veterans of Wake County Chapter #1 to celebrate Armed Forces Day with local veterans and active military members. She thanked members for their service, and we thank Mayor Day for staying connected to our military community!
