Raleigh Rescue Mission Breaks Ground For The Garden In Knightdale
 I recently attended the ground breaking for The Garden, a new long-term transitional housing facility for women and children experiencing situational homelessness. The project, a collaboration between the Town of Knightdale, the Raleigh Rescue Mission and Lennar Homes, is located off of Knightdale Eagle Rock Road. I'm grateful that Councilor Latatious Morris and Mayor Pro Tem Steve Evans were also able to attend.

U8 Coach Pitch Baseball All-Star Team Leads The Pledge Of Allegiance
I want to send special thanks to the KPRD U8 Coach Pitch Baseball All-Star Showcase players for their participation in one of our recent Town Council meetings. The players led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and were awarded special certificates from our Parks & Recreation staff. These kids knocked it out of the park, both in the field and in Council Chambers! Way to go, team!
Celebrating An NCLM Re-election
 I'm so excited to announce I was re-elected for a second term as a board member of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM)! was sworn in at the organization’s annual conference, CityVision, held in Greenville, NC.
As a member of the NCLM Board of Directors, I will assist in solution-driven discussions that focus on issues impacting towns, cities and municipalities throughout the state of North Carolina. These issues include topics like local economic development efforts, affordable housing solutions, zoning reforms, downtown revitalizations, leadership initiatives and more. At the conference, I co-facilitated a presentation with Knightdale Town Manager Bill Summers on Leadership Through Conflict, and it was a very well-received seminar.
I will continue to advocate and lend my voice to the concerns of small towns like Knightdale that have unique challenges and resources to offer. I promise to continue to represent Knightdale well as Board member!
Collaborating in the Community: Chi Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
 Collaboration is at the heart of Knightdale's ties to its small businesses and community organizations. I recently had the pleasure of meeting with the Chi Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. This sorority has served eastern Wake County for over 20 years, and they are always willing to serve by uplifting the community, empowering families, building our economic wealth, enhancing the environment, and advocating for social justice.

Knightdale Mayor Hosts 2025 Leadership Raleigh Cohort
 The Leadership Raleigh program regularly incorporates a visit to Knightdale into its curriculum, and I am SO happy that they do! I got a chance to speak to this year's class at the Knightdale Quarry to show them examples of the quality products and unparalleled customer service coming from our business community.
Leadership Raleigh is one of the oldest sustained community leadership programs in the nation! I always appreciate visiting with these participants because our short time together helps them gain a better understanding and perspective of our community and the issues that impact and affect eastern Wake County.

Congrats, 2025 Knightdale Leaders Academy Graduates
 In an effort to inspire and empower Knightdale youth to become visionary leaders, the Town Council instituted the Knightdale Leaders Academy, and we just graduated the first class of participants!
This program is the brainchild of Councilor Latatious Morris and Detective Zoe Cruz of the Knightdale Police Department. They worked tirelessly with our Communications Department to put the curriculum together and organize all of the activities into a cohesive week of learning.
The initial class of 14 students actively engaged in hands-on experiences meant to develop them into informed, compassionate, and resilient individuals. They spent several evenings with facilitators who walked them through workshops focused on various topics. I got a chance to work with the class on leadership development, and I had such a great time with them. Other facilitators included Ryan Ray from the Knightdale Rotary Club; Gejuan Sweat Batson from Trailhead Transformation, LLC; Tabitha J. Codrington from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Sergeant Chris Burke of the Knightdale Police Department; and the Knightdale Community Relations Department.
Congratulations, KLA Class of 2025! I can't wait to hear about the amazing things you do this upcoming school year!
Upcoming Events
 I know many students are still enjoying their summer vacation, but we want them to be prepared when the new school year begins. Our annual Arts and Education festival will take place on Saturday, August 16, from 10 am until 1 pm, at Knightdale Station Park. We'll be giving away backpacks and school supplies, enjoying kid events and inflatables, chowing down on great eats from on-site food trucks, and more! Bring the family out to spend the day with us!
