Helpful information to help you prepare for the disposal of your Christmas trees responsibly. Beginning Monday, January 6, 2025, our weekly curbside Christmas tree collection will be available until January 31, 2025.
Here’s how it works:
- Place your undecorated Christmas tree at the curb by 7:30 a.m. each Monday morning for collection.
- Your tree will be picked up by the end of the weekly yard waste route.
For Apartment and Townhome Communities within Town limits
- Collections will take place each Friday in January.
- Trees must be placed near the community’s trash dumpster areas. Please do not dispose of trees in trash dumpsters.
Important Guidelines:
- All trees must be free of decorations, lights, tinsel, or other materials.
- Trees that contain any foreign matter cannot be collected, as they are composted per Wake County guidelines.
Let’s work together to ensure a smooth transition into the new year!

Knightdale Police Department continues to uphold its standard of organizational excellence and professional policing with successful audits in three state and nationally recognized law enforcement programs.
Last month KPD completed a comprehensive Law Enforcement Risk Review offer through the NC league of Municipalities (NCLM) Shield Services program. This program is a comprehensive review of the 40 High-Risk categories in law enforcement, and an agency's adherence to best practices and policies as they relate to these categories. This is the second time KPD has successfully undergone this particular assessment, and it comes on the heels of their NC Law Enforcement Accreditation (NCLEA) and Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) reaccreditations in October and March 2024, respectively.
At the time of this publishing, Knightdale PD is the ONLY law enforcement agency in the state of North Carolina to undergo audits in the CALEA, NCLEA, and NCLM Risk Review programs successfully! The department expects to be formally recognized for its NC accreditation at an upcoming NC Department Of Justice committee meeting, while the NCLM Risk Review award will be presented at an upcoming Knightdale Town Council meeting. Interestingly, KPD is the only agency in NC to undergo successful audits in all 3 programs – CALEA, NCLEA, and NCLM Risk Review.
Knightdale Police Chief Lawrence Capps and the members of his department all believe these accreditations reflect KPD’s commitment to organizational excellence and professional policing.

This holiday season, the Town of Knightdale is proud to partner with MADD North Carolina to honor lives lost to impaired driving and promote safe celebrations.
From December 10, 2024, to January 1, 2025, Town Hall will shine bright in red as a beacon of remembrance and a call to action for responsible choices.
We encourage businesses, organizations, and residents to join us by lighting up your homes or buildings in red. Together, let’s spread this powerful message across Knightdale.
Snap a photo of your display and share it with the hashtags #RedForRemembrance and #DecorateCelebrateDesignate to show your support.
Let’s make this a season of safety, remembrance, and hope.

The Town of Knightdale wants to send CONGRATULATIONS to all of the Knightdale Mayor’s Academy graduates! They held their closing ceremony on December 5 after successfully attending all of the sessions over the past several months. They learned all about the ins and outs of how Knightdale works behind the scenes, and they learned all about our operations–even getting some hands-on experience! We’re super proud of everyone who participated.

Winter brings crisp air, festive charm—and unique challenges for pedestrians. Whether you're walking for health, commuting, or simply enjoying the season, colder weather and shorter days can increase risks on the road. Reduced daylight, slippery roads, and fogged windshields can affect drivers' ability to see and respond to pedestrians. In addition, we know that many drivers do not see as well at night, and many drive distracted without their full attention on the road. Because of this, as a pedestrian, you must take steps to protect yourself and ensure you stay safe when sharing the road.
-
Wear Reflective Gear: Short days and overcast skies mean reduced visibility for drivers. Make yourself stand out by wearing reflective clothing or accessories, like armbands, vests, or shoe clips.
-
Use Lights at Night: Carry a flashlight or use a wearable light to increase your visibility in low-light or nighttime conditions. These help drivers see you from a distance.
-
Don’t Assume Drivers See You: Snow, rain, or fog can impair a driver’s vision. Always be cautious, even if you have the right of way.
-
Avoid Distractions: Keep your focus on your surroundings. Refrain from texting, scrolling, or wearing noise-canceling headphones when near traffic.
-
Stay on the Sidewalk: If there’s no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and stay as far to the side as possible.
While it’s the responsibility of all road users to look out for one another, taking proactive steps to stay visible and predictable can make a big difference for pedestrians during winter.
