Here For Each Other
Hello, Knightdale! Seasons are changing, and so much is going on in our state and country. It's all a reminder to stay service-aware, as so many need our help and support. Let's give it willingly and cheerfully!
I wanted to share highlights of some events that have happened recently in Knightdale, as well as a few things going on with our citizens and community.

Town Council Meeting Highlights Neuse River Middle School Student Leadership
|
|
It may sound like a cliché, but I wholeheartedly believe our children are the future. We in Knightdale have an amazing future ahead of us if you look at the youth who have come out to our monthly Council Meetings to lead our pledge!
We recently had two Neuse River Middle School Student Ambassadors help lead our Pledge of Allegiance. It's always nice to have students help us start our meetings, but these students went a step further and also led the pledge in SPANISH! It was truly an honor to witness their leadership.
Special thanks to Councilor Mark Swan for leading this session of the Town Council Meeting in my absence. I appreciate your service!

Knightdale Mayor Day Celebrates Food Lion Refresh with Ribbon Cutting
I was honored to support our local Food Lion's Grand "Refresh" and ribbon-cutting. The day was filled with grocery giveaways totaling thousands of dollars, raffles, and so much more. Store Manager Chris Mincey and his leadership team were there to greet town citizens and discuss the new offerings in the grocery store.
This event was very special to me because my first job ever was working at this exact Food Lion as a teenager! It was definitely a full circle moment for me, and one that I will cherish as a Knightdale citizen and local government leader. We're growing, Kdale!

Mayor Day Chosen To Serve on NCLM Board
|
|
I am excited to announce that I was recently appointed as a board member of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM). I also serve as a co-chair of the Policy Committee within the organization.
The NCLM supports all of the municipalities within the state of North Carolina through advocacy efforts and promoting service initiatives. The goal of the organization is to collaboratively work to protect local decision-making authority so that citizens and local municipality leaders can make their towns the best they can be.
I'm proud to serve these roles as Knightdale's mayor, and I promise to keep you updated on goals and objectives from the NCLM that impact our area.

Mayor Day Hosts the Our Youth Matters Back To School Fashion Show
What better way to start the school year off than a youth fashion show?! I was invited to serve as the hostess of the Our Youth Matters Back to School Fashion Show, and I had such a wonderful time.
The Knightdale Town Council believes in supporting our young citizens as they pursue education, creative arts, and all they set their hearts to do. Our students are so much more than grades on a report card. They're filled with so many amazing dreams and aspirations, and I saw that reflected in all of the various entertainment performances throughout the night. It was truly a memorable evening.
Congratulations to all of the participants. I can't wait to see what you put together next year!

Our Fall on First Avenue Was A Success In More Ways Than One!
|
|
Knightdale truly knows how to throw a festival. We prove that time and time again each year, and this year's Fall on First Avenue Festival was no exception! We had a host of citizens and attendees, along with local community leaders such as Knightdale High School Staff (above). Kids enjoyed inflatables, good music and food, and a morning of fun in the park.
The Town also partnered with Northside Community Church to collect donations for victims of Hurricane Helene in Western NC. As you can see below, our community came together to fill up an entire rental truck! Thank you to everyone who came out to the festival, and to everyone who gave donations for our neighbors across the state. THIS is what community is all about!

Mayor Day Speaks At The Wendell-Wake County NAACP Mary E. Perry Freedom Fund Banquet
It's always an honor to attend events from noted organizations throughout Wake County. My recent invitation to the Mary E. Perry Freedom Fund Banquet, sponsored by the Wendell-Wake County NAACP, was extra special because this branch serves our part of eastern Wake.
The banquet is named after the longest-serving president of the organization, Mary E. Perry. Ms. Perry served the local NAACP chapter for over 45 years and registered over 10,000 people to vote! What a legacy!

|
This year's keynote speaker was North Carolina State Auditor Jessica Holmes, and she was nothing short of fantastic. I want to send well wishes to this year's award winner, Sonya Barnes, who was recognized for her service to her community. Special thanks to Wendell-Wake NAACP President, Tony Derico, who has dedication years to the Wendell-Wake branch of the NAACP. His leadership is truly worthy of emulation.
Well Wishes For A Restful Retirement,
Chief Armstrong!
I want to send a huge congratulations and message of well-wishes to Chief Jason Armstrong, who will be retiring from the Apex Police Department at the end of October. Chief Armstrong has served Apex and Wake County honorably, and he will truly be missed. I'm very sure we haven't seen the last of him, though; he will be busy promoting his new book, among other personal projects. Well deserved, Chief! Enjoy retirement!
Upcoming Events
The Town of Knightdale, in conjunction with the Two Green Thumbs Garden Club, will host a Veterans Day Tribute on Sunday, November 10. I hope you will join us and help us recognize and honor our local military heroes.
