What A Season For Service!
Hello, Knightdale! This summer was really wonderful in the Town of Knightdale. Though students are heading back to class, there's still a little more of the season left for service! I wanted to share highlights of some events that have happened recently in Knightdale, as well as a few things going on with our citizens and community.

Knightdale Youth Show Up As Leaders
In Town Council Meeting
|
|
We've been privileged to have some amazing groups of young people lead our Town Council Meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance this summer. Cub Scouts Pack and BSA Troop 347 are partner youth groups that serve all school-age youth from kindergarten through high school in activities that promote citizenship, community engagement, personal fitness, teamwork, and being active in the great outdoors. The 2024 Knightdale U12 All Star Baseball team is made up of the best players that Knightdale Parks and Recreation has to offer. They competed in the SJBA and Tar Heel District All-Star Tournaments and took home a few wins, played hard every inning.
We're so proud of all our Knightdale youth, and we're so grateful that they're all service-oriented. Thank you for coming to our Council Meetings!

Knightdale Starts Community Relations
Advisory Board
The Town recently started its first Community Relations Advisory Board (or CRAB). This board serves as advisors to the Town Council to advance safety, respect, and comfort for all residents. It was established to strengthen the community through the promotion of connection and inclusion throughout town. The goal of CRAB is to:
• Encourage understanding and good will between all citizens, regardless of characteristics, and thus promote the general welfare of the town; • Report and recommend to the Town Council measures to promote connection and inclusion in the town; • Act as a purposeful public forum so there will be better communication between all segments of the town; and • Promote peace, understanding, mutual respect, good will, and harmony among all town citizens
Look forward to hearing more from this citizen advisory board in the coming months!

Enslaved Cemetery Honored As Historical Landmark
|
|
|
|
Several members of the Widewater Commons community dedicated over two years to clean up and preserve an area that was considered the first cemetery of enslaved plantation workers in Wake County. Thanks to their hard work and the help of a successful GoFundMe campaign, the site was officially registered as a historical landmark this summer. It's an honorable way to recognize the lives of people who paved the way for our current society to have all it has.
Special thanks to Town Council members Stephen Morgan for attending the dedication ceremony, and Steve Evans for speaking on behalf of the town. This is truly a moment to mark in Knightdale's history.

Knightdale Hosts International Mayor From Monrovia, Liberia
It's not often that we get to host mayors from other countries in Knightdale, but we were afforded that opportunity this summer. Many of our town's leadership, including Town Manager Bill Summers and Fire Chief Loren Cone, spent time with John-Charuk S. Siafa, the 28th Mayor of the City of Monrovia, Liberia (in Africa). Joined by Pearl Forbes, the CEO of Mama Africa and a liaison for the City of Monrovia, Mayor Siafa came to learn about our local government and the services we offer ,including our fire operations.
We were fortunate to get to spend some time with Mayor Siafa and Ms. Forbes, and we look forward to hearing about the great progress happening in Monrovia!

Mayor Day Enjoys a Firebirds Game With Wake County Mayors
|
|
Who enjoys watching the Raleigh Firebirds? THIS crew! I got a chance to watch one of their games with some local leaders, including Zebulon Mayor Glenn York and former Knightdale mayor, Doug Boyd. We all enjoy cheering the Firebirds on, and it's even better done together!

July 4th Was FABULOUS in Knightdale!
Knightdale enjoyed a wonderfully sunny (and WARM) Independence Day this year, which helped us have a successful Fourth on First Avenue celebration on July 4. We had an amazing crowd of families and citizens who enjoyed biking, water activities, a live DJ, tons of food trucks, live music from Love Tribe, and much more.
Special thanks to our Town Council and Parks and Recreation team for facilitating a great community event, and to our Public Works team for their support, as well.
