We're Moving Along!
Hello, Knightdale! We're entering the second quarter of the year (can you believe it?!), and so much has been happening throughout our town. I wanted to share highlights of some events that have happened recently in Knightdale, as well as a few things going on with our citizens and community.

Knightdale Youth Lead Pledge Of Allegiance At Town Council Meeting
To lead our Pledge of Allegiance at our March Council Meeting, we were elated to welcome Lockhart Elementary Student Council President Simon Lieb and Vice-President Brooklyn Smith. Their Student Council's mission is to represent the voices of fellow students, promote a positive school environment, and develop students into strong leaders. The Student Council is made up of 4th and 5th graders who have been elected by their classmates and serve as strong role models within the school community
Thank you both for your service!

Knightdale Recognizes Outgoing Community Advisory Board Members
Knightdale has the most amazing citizens! We are grateful for all who volunteer their time on any of our advisory boards. Your concern and care for the goings-on in our town help create change and foster consistent accountability. At our last Town Council meeting, we said goodbye to several members of our citizen advisory boards, including members of our Land Use Review Board, Veterans Memorial Advisory Board, and Community Policing Advisory Board. We are a better, stronger Knightdale because of your time and service!

Mayor Day Celebrates With Wendell Wake County Branch Of NAACP
Receiving a Humanitarian Award is such a thrill and honor, but it's more of an honor to bestow it on another respected peer and community leader. I was given that privilege at this year's Annual Ruth H. Morgan Black History and Humanitarian Award Program, sponsored by the Wendell-Wake County Branch of the NAACP. I spoke to the audience about the importance of everyone, not just dignitaries or award leaders, taking part in shaping our local communities. We are all leaders and have a responsibility to give and contribute what we can to and for our neighbors.
Congratulations to this year's Humanitarian Award winner, Zebulon mayor Glenn York! Thank you to the Wendell Wake Branch of the NAACP for having me, and for hosting another wonderful event again this year.

I want to send a very special thanks to Mayor Pro Tem Latatious Morris, Sgt Chris Burke and Community Resource Officer Michael Gray for taking time to read to students at Hodge Road Elementary's African-American Read-in event today! The event helped students discover and explore literature by African-American authors. Our students are an investment in our future; I know the time spent with them was sincerely appreciated. Knightdale Celebrates Creek Week with StoryWalk And Arbor Day
Sustainability is extremely vital to the future of Knightdale, which is why it is one of the 5 pillars of our Strategic Plan. I'm grateful for our Annual Creek Week events, which included a StoryWalk around our environmental park for families to enjoy. Thanks to Ike Archer and Dylan Kirk for spearheading the ribbon-cutting and activities. You did an amazing job!
I'm also thankful to everyone who came out to celebrate Arbor Day and TreeCity USA recognition with us! Special thank-you's go to the Two Green Thumbs Garden Club, our Town Council, Knightdale Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and our Development Services departments, and Rob Roberson of the NC Forest Service, who officially recognized Knightdale as a TreeCity USA town for the 23rd time!
