Strategic Plan 2026–2031:
The Path to CCS Excellence
Community-driven roadmap sets bold direction for student achievement and the district’s path to becoming the highest-performing district in North Carolina
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland County Board of Education has unanimously approved Strategic Plan 2026–2031: The Path to CCS Excellence, a community-driven roadmap that will guide Cumberland County Schools (CCS) over the next five years.
Rooted in the theme “One Vision. One Journey. Success for All.”, the new strategic plan was shaped by broad stakeholder input gathered through the Bracy on Board Listening and Learning Tour, surveys, focus groups, steering committee meetings and ongoing community conversations. Students, families, staff and community partners all helped identify the priorities that will guide CCS’ next chapter.
“This strategic plan gives us a clear roadmap to align our work, strengthen accountability and keep student achievement at the center of every decision we make,” said Dr. Eric C. Bracy, superintendent of Cumberland County Schools.
At the center of the plan is CCS’ North Star: Cumberland County Schools will be the highest-performing district in North Carolina. Grounded in a vision that every student is valued and every graduate is prepared to thrive, ready for college, career and life, the plan reflects a mission centered on safe and supportive learning environments, high-quality instruction, strong relationships and family partnerships.
Strategic Plan 2026–2031: The Path to CCS Excellence is organized around four pillars — Successful Students, Premier Professionals, Exceptional Environments and Committed Community — that will anchor the district’s work and keep the focus on the areas that matter most for student success. Those priorities include academic achievement and growth, postsecondary readiness, graduation, teacher retention and school safety.
“We are grateful to the many stakeholders whose input helped shape this plan,” said the Cumberland County Board of Education. “This strategic plan reflects a shared commitment to high expectations, strong relationships and a school system where every student is known, supported and prepared to thrive.”
With Board approval now secured, CCS district teams will begin implementation planning and launch the rollout this summer and during the next school year. Through communications and marketing outreach efforts, CCS will provide opportunities for the entire community to learn more about the plan and their role in bringing it to life.
District leaders emphasized that this is more than a document. It is CCS’ path forward for increasing student achievement, strengthening support for educators and staff, deepening family and community partnerships and ensuring students leave CCS prepared to succeed and excel in their chosen pathways in life.
“Together, we have a plan,” said Dr. Bracy. “Together, we will do the work. And together, we will get there.”
