WHAT: Announcement of Bikes for Kids Essay Winners
WHEN: Thursday, December 4, 2025 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.

WHY: To celebrate the character-building efforts of three essay winners— and to reveal a memorable surprise for all third-grade participants ... SHHHH!

E.E. Smith High School's Magnificent Marching Machine Drumline will be 'on hand' to help celebrate.

Sixty-two third graders wrote essays after reading the book titled "Think Big. Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses." Three students with winning essays will initially be presented with a new bike.

The effort, sponsored by Olde Fayetteville Insurance & Financial Services, is a part of the Bikes for Kids national foundation, which was co-founded by Meadowlark Lemon.

The program provides bikes and helmets to Title I third graders as their first step in completing the three-year character-building program.

This is the fifth year Bikes for Kids has been a part of Cumberland County.
